Axel and his wife, Olga, came from Denmark in 1910. They homesteaded in Canada for 15 years and then came to California in 1925, settling in San Francisco, where they raised their five children: Betty, Gordon, Ella, Phyllis and Henry. Axel was an iron worker in the ship yards.
