6 years old. Jacob was swept away in flood waters during an unusual Arizona storm. His family was trying to get him to a hospital because he had been sick.
Here is part of the story from the local paper.

The Baudeks first crossed the wash on their way to obtain medical help for Jacob, who was ill. At the time they crossed, the normally dry wash, which feeds into the Agua Fria, was only a foot deep. When the family was within 10 feet of shore, a 5 ½ foot wall of water hit their vehicle, and swept it from the roadway. The flood washed Katrina Baudek into the water, but she was able to make it to shore. David Baudek moved his two children, Jacob and Desiree, 8, to the back of the truck for safety. After a bystander threw him a rope, he held on to the rope and his children for two hours as water roared over the truck and battered the three. Finally, he could hold on no longer and jumped for shore with the children. Baudek and his daughter made it out of the water, but the flood swept Jacob away.
