James Fogarty was born in Castlecomer, Kilkenny, Ireland about 1825. His parents were Patrick Fogarty and Ellen Walsh. He left Ireland at the height of the famine about 1845. He spent some time in Harper's Ferry, Virginia. Then he moved on to Staten Island, New York before settling in Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania. At least two of his siblings also came to the United States: his sister Mary Fogarty, who married Michael Bergin and lived in Coalcastle, Pennsylvania; and his brother, Thomas, who married Margaret and lived in the East Falls section of Philadelphia.
In September 1849, JAMES FOGARTY married BRIDGET WALL, the daughter of JANE DORMER and ROBERT WALL at ST. PATRICK'S CHURCH in Pottsville, Pennsylvania.
James was a mechanic by trade and worked in the machine shops in Pottsville. He was also a staunch Democrat. For twenty-five years he sat on the School Board of East Norwegian, most of the time serving as the Secretary.
James and *Bridget had eleven children all of whom survived to adulthood.
James died on December 20, 1892 in Mill Creek near Port Carbon( Pottsville Area), Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania.
After his death, Bridget moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where most of her family was living. In 1916 James was re-interred in the Family Plot at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.this picture was given by James Fogarty's great great grandson Timothy Tray.
