Barry was the forth and last child of Ngawai and Mahanga Brown, Whatatutu, Gisborne, New Zealand. He was killed in a car accident aged 19 years. He had just begun his working life as a shepherd on a local farm when he died. He loved to surf and right through all his High School years he would carry his surf board on his push bike the few kilometers to the beach until he could afford to buy his first car - an old blue prefect. He spent every moment he could riding the waves and was so often at the beach that I guess the sea and sun bleached his long dark and curly hair ginger.
When I think of you I see you riding the biggest of waves.
