Served in the Union Army, 152nd Regiment, Pennsylvania Infantry, Company D, from November 12, 1862 to November 9, 1866

William was the third of seven children born to Sarah Rodda and John Eva. He married Dora Abbey about 1887, and the couple had five children: John, William, Sally, George, and Ruth. He worked as a miner and also served as a minister with the Evangelical Church.
