Thomas L. Eaker, age 61, of Edwardsville died at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, September 28, 2008 at St. Anthony's Medical Center in Alton, Illinois.

Tom owned and operated Eaker's Family Barber Shop in Edwardsville. The shop was founded in 1951 by his father. Tom worked with his father for many years and currently worked with his daughter Kari.

Tom was born August 11, 1947 in Alton, Illinois, son of the late Chester & Agnes (Graham) Eaker. He married Susan Montgomery on September 10, 1971 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Edwardsville. Besides his wife Susan, he is survived by a daughter Kari E. Eaker-Overholtz and her husband Rich of Edwardsville; a son Timothy P. Eaker of New York, New York; a grandson Jack Thomas Eaker of Edwardsville. Other survivors include a sister Joan Woodard of Edwardsville; 3 nieces, Tara & Trisha Vieregge; his Mother-in-law Betty Montgomery of Chesterfield, Mo.; 2 sisters-in-law, Allene Montgomery of Chesterfield & Linda Swearengen & her husband Jim & their daughter Kate of Columbia, Mo. Tom was preceded in death by his father-in-law Phillip Montgomery.

Tom was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Edwardsville and a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He served in the US Navy during Vietnam where he was wounded three times receiving the Purple Heart. He was Past President of the Edwardsville Jaycees and an Illinois Jaycee Senator. He was Past President of the Booster Club SIUE Basketball Program.

According to Tom's wishes his body was cremated.
