Dewey was born a Christmas baby in 1946 at the Altoona Hospital to the late Kenneth and Dorothy (Kimmel) Hoover of Cross Keys - Duncansville, where he lived until he graduated from Hollidaysburg Area High School in 1964. He then attended Edinboro University of Pennsylvania earning a B.S. degree in art education and was a member of the university's wrestling team.
Dewey was a dedicated art teacher at Chief Logan and Indian Valley high schools in the Mifflin County School District for 35 years before retirement. He also was a businessman who owned and operated Dewey's Pools & Spas for 25 years.
Dewey is survived by his college sweetheart and wife, Marjorie K. (Mortimer) Hoover. They married in 1968 and raised their family in the Lewistown area, before relocating to Miramar Beach, FL. He will be forever missed by his family. Surviving are daughters: Amanda Hoover of Miramar Beach, FL, Tracy Ficca and husband, Dan, of Harrisburg and a son, Thaddeus and wife, Billi, of Niceville, FL; two brothers and one sister: Richard of Duncansville, Elaine (Hoover) Root of Matthews, NC, and Kenneth of Flowery Branch, GA. He also is the pappy of Amber, Aleshia, Jonah, Owen, Daniel and Magee, who wish he could have stayed with them much longer.
Dewey was very passionate about hunting and fishing. He also was enjoying some great golf while living in Florida. In the past few years, he had become a proud member of Buster's Group and the Chain Gang, which became a second family to him. Everyone who knew Dewey was aware that he was fun-loving, often to a fault. He was most passionate about his family. They will all miss his incredible wit, his tidbits of wisdom, and the boundless love he had for them all.
A service was held for Dewey at 9:30 a.m. Friday, April 18, at Resurrection Roman Catholic Church in Miramar Beach, Fla. Interment was made privately at the Carson Valley Cemetery in Duncansville.
