Lance Cpl. Jordan Chrobot, 24, of Frederick, Maryland, grew up idolizing his grandfather, a Vietnam veteran. So Jordan decided from an early age he was also going to be a Marine some day. After graduating from high school he worked with his father for a couple of years and in November of 2006 enlisted in the Marine Corps. He served a tour of duty in Iraq from October 2007 to May 2008. In May of 2009 he was deployed to Afghanistan, assigned to 2nd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, based at Camp Lejeune, N.C. Jordan was killed by small arms fire on September 26. He is survived by his wife of two and a half years, Amber Bird Chrobot; his parents, Kandy Poole Johns and husband Jerry Johns of Harrisonburg, Va., and Walter Lee Chrobot and wife Susan of Baltimore, Md.; siblings, Casie and Morgan Chrobot and Connor Johns of Harrisonburg, Va.; maternal grandparents, Ed and Anita Teague Poole of Frederick, Md.; his paternal grandmother, Margie Chrobot of Taylorsville, Md.; and a special aunt, Dusty Hardman. Jordan is also survived by his wife's family who loved him as their own and will miss him deeply, father-in-law and mother-in-law Chuck and Cindy Bird; brother-in-law Caleb, brother-in-law and fellow Marine Sgt. Andrew Bird along with his wife Ashley and their children, Nicholas and Natalie. Also survived by special cousins, Carrie Martin and Michael and Stephanie Bird. He leaves behind numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and his dog Piper. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Walter Lee Chrobot, Sr. Jordan was an avid Civil War buff and participated in re-enactions. He was buried with his Civil War rifle and his friends wore period costumes to his funeral.
