Funeral held 10 August 1938. Roy Coles, well known Baggs rancher, died in the Veterans Hospital at Cheyenne Sunday as the result of a gun shot wound which he suffered at his ranch near Baggs Monday evening of last week. He was fatally injured when a gun held by his son, Buddy 12, was accidentally discharged as the two left the ranch house to go into the yard to attempt to shoot a skunk, according to information secured by Ivan Daugherty , deputy sheriff, who investigated the affair. The pellets from the 410 shot gun struck him in the side of the face. No inquest was held since it was an apparent case of accidental death. Sheriff Jack McPherson said today. Funeral services were held at Baggs this afternoon at 2 o'clock. "

The accidental nature of the shooting is questionable. Vern Cole related a different story about the incident to his daughter.
