Marty was an avid historian. She was a member of the Houston County Historical Commission, and at one time she served as an officer. She was responsible for the Houston County Historical Marker book.

She devoted much of her time to the preservation of the local cemeteries. She was a registered member of Find A Grave for over 12 years, adding over 200 memorials and close to 700 photos. She would tell anyone and everyone about Find A Grave and encouraged everyone to join and create memorials for their family and friends that had passed on.

She also participated in the Lovelady Evergreen Cemetery Association.

Marty worked hard to help with the 175th anniversary event of the formation of Houston County. She was very proud of the area where she resided and lived for many years.
