Many called him "Andy". He was an authenic WWII hero and served in North Africa under General Patton, in the invasion of Europe at Normandy and was wounded twice. He lost his left lung when a German soldier shot him at close range during the battle of the Bulge. He was a one of a kind and a loyal, honest, fearless American.

His WWII medals were: The Silver Star ,4th highest award for bravery and meritious service, The European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign metal, with a 3 star cluster, The Purple Heart with a Bronz Oak cluster, indicating he was wounded twice, The Good Contact Medal,The Combat Infantry Badge, The WWII Victory Medal and The Honorable Discharge metal some called "Ruptured Duck".
