Elsie Nichols Hogle Bertolet was murdered by her husband Samuel Bertolet in Ohio in 1925. This left Baby Bernie Boy - as my Granny Viola Floyd recalled with tears, an orphan. It was as though Sam vanished off of the face of the earth. Fifty years later I was told by my Grandfather "Don't bother looking for him- they'll never find him".

The entire Hogle Family loaded up and moved west with Elsie's baby boy Bernie and moved to Yukon, OK. Bernie Boy was raised by his Hogle Grand-parents and the Aunts & Uncles all cared for him. They moved to Lancaster, TX. and eventually out west to Phoenix, AZ.

Bernie grew up in Phoenix, AZ. and died there as well. he had heart trouble. I recall they stripped the veins out of his legs and he was in so much pain then - back in early 70's.. we all prayed for him. His heart finally failed. God Bless Bernie Boy and he joined his Dear Mother Angel Elsie who had been stolen from him his whole lifetime.

On one trip to Dallas, he had no hood on his car. Told us it gets so hot in Phoenix, he found the car ran better and was less likely to overheat! He said that other folks out there did the same thing! Wow! What a great idea! But, in Dallas, TX - we told him, he might lose a battery real quick that way! Sign of the times...
