George E. Brewer passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his friends and family, on April 20, 2012. He was 94 years old at the time of his passing. Mr. Brewer was born on November 29, 1917 in Washington County Mississippi. He was one of seven children born to Luther David and Nancy Catherine Brewer. George attended school in Avon, Mississippi and graduated in 1938. He enlisted in the Army in March of 1942 and served four years. He entered the Army as a Private and rose to the rank of Captain. Mr. Brewer was commissioned in the 3rd Tank Destroyer Group and was shipped overseas. His outfit landed on Normandy Beach the 2nd day of the invasion. He served with the First Army and also with General Patton's Third Army. He was in a small town in Belgium during the Battle of the Bulge and was surrounded by the German army. Mr. Brewer worked for the Dorsey Company for eighteen years. In 1967 he purchased Searcy Office Supply and in 2001 he bought Rowlett Office Supply. Mr. Brewer was a member of Elmwood United Methodist Church and served in many capacities over the years. He taught Sunday School for 30 years. George was a 32nd degree Mason and Shriner. Mr. Brewer is survived by his two daughters, Martha Morrison and Sara Ice; two sisters: Allie Gene Nealy and Thyrza Gibbs; and many generations of grandchildren. Mr. Brewer was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mildred; son, David Deis; sister, Luther Mae Williams; brothers: Earl Brewer, Alva Brewer, Malcolm Brewer, and Theo Redd. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Nancy Kuhl, his friend of many years, for her love, friendship, and caring. Funeral services will be held at 10:30am on Saturday, April 28, 2012, at Elmwood Methodist Church, 1315 Berkley Avenue - Dallas, with Dr. Earnest Walt officiating. Burial will follow at Grove Hill Memorial Park. Visitation will be on Friday at Grove Hill Funeral Home from 5pm to 7pm and again at 9:30am at Elmwood Methodist Church on Saturday.
