Mary Olivia Boyle Naugle died on March 17, 2013 at the age of 99. She was born in Jacksonville, Florida on February 13, 1914, the only child of Belle Fleming and John Louis Boyle.
After graduation from Jackson High School, she attended Florida State College for Women (now FSU), where she majored in journalism and wrote for the school newspaper. After college, she worked for Metropolitan Life Insurance until her marriage to John Lee Naugle. The couple moved into their home in San Marco in 1940, where they raised their two children. She taught Sunday School at First Christian Church for 40 years and was a devoted member there for over 90 years.
She made remarkable cheesecakes. Her grandsons called her fearless, mostly referring to her adventurous spirit, illuminated by such things as her solo in a Piper Cub and boogie boarding in her 80's.
She is survived by her daughter Claudia Lee Naugle of Atlantic Beach, her son John Stanley Naugle (Mary Walker) of Hilliard, her grandsons John Orie Naugle (Laurie) and Charles Cade Naugle (Kathy) of Jacksonville, her great grandchildren John Bayer Naugle and Broward Leigh Naugle, and her cousin Helen Blake.
Funeral service will be at 1:30 Wednesday, March 20, 2013 in the chapel of Naugle Funeral Home with the Rev. Jeffrey Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery. The family wishes to thank the staff at Harbor Chase for their kind and gentle treatment during Mary's final years.
