The youngest child and only son of Heinrich August "Henry" Meseke and Wilhelmine Katharine Hammer, Louis was born and raised in Calhoun County, Illinois. He was baptized at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Brussels, Illinois.
Louis married Mathilda Wilhelmina "Tillie" Willenburg on 15 Jan 1901 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church. Their attendants were George Willenburg and Elizabeth "Lizzie" Moerlein.
After their marriage, Louis and Tillie moved in with his parents. Louis eventually took over the farm since he was the only boy of his parents' 5 children.
As the young family grew, rooms were added on to the Meseke farm house. Louis and Tillie raised 8 children, and, like so many others at the time, they never owned a baby bed, high chair or bottle.
After reaching adulthood, several of the Meseke boys moved to St. Louis County, Missouri. "Bud," who never married, stayed at home and helped his father run the farm until he was drafted into the army during World War II. Tragically, Bud was killed in action on 19 Nov 1943. After Bud's death, the Mesekes left the farm and moved to a small home near their youngest daughter, Freda. Her husband took over the Meseke family farm thereafter.
Forever deeply saddened by the loss of their son, Louis died at home in Golden Eagle, Illinois in 1956 at the age of 81 years, 3 months and 10 days. He was survived by his wife, Tillie; 4 sons, Henry, Louis, George and Oscar; 3 daughters, Bertha, Oleta and Freda; 11 grandchildren; and 1 great-granddaughter.
Louis was also survived by 3 sisters, Louise Smith, Annie Kinder and Caroline Kinder. However, all 3 died within the next 6 months following their brother's death in January.
In addition to his son, Bud, Louis was also preceded in death by his parents; and 1 sister, Emma Dinkler.
Visitation was held at Imming Funeral Home in Brussels. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. on the afternoon of 28 Jan 1956 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Brussels. Burial in the church cemetery followed.
Louis' wife, Tillie, passed away in 1963 and was buried next to him.

LIFE HISTORY OF LOUIS MESEKE
Louis Meseke entered into rest at the age of 81 years, 3 months and 10 days, Wednesday, Jan. 25, 1956, at his home in Golden Eagle.
He was baptized and confirmed when quite young in St. Matthew's Evangelical Lutheran Church at Brussels, and remained a faithful and devout christian until the end.
Mr. Meseke was united in Holy wedlock to Tillie Willenburg in St. Matthew's Church on Jan. 15, 1901. They resided on the farm where he was born and reared. To this union five sons and three daughters were born.
On Nov. 19, 1943, a deep sorrow entered their home when word came that their youngest and beloved son, Otto, was killed on the battlefields of Italy during World War II.
On Jan. 15, 1951, their Golden Wedding Anniversary was celebrated. Soon after this time Mr. Meseke's health began to fail, and due to this fact, they erected a new home near that of their daughter, Freda, and husband. Their kind and tender care during his illness was ever prevalent.
He was a regular attendant at his church until illness prevented it; but his pastor visited him often, and he would hear the Word of God, and partook of Holy Communion regularly.
During the golden years of his life his faithful, devoted wife was his constant companion. All of her devotion and loving care was bestowed upon him, and many times endearing words of praise were spoken by him to friends of her untiring care and love.
Mr. Meseke was honored by his fellow man for his honesty, integrity and the good will he bestowed on his neighbors and friends at all times.
Funeral rites were conducted Saturday, Jan. 28, at 2 o'clock in St. Matthew's Church, his pastor, the Rev. E. A. Dautenhahn, in charge of the service. Two beautiful hymns, "Jesus Saviour Pilot Me", and "Heaven Is My Home", were rendered by the church choir.
He leaves to mourn his sad departure his dear wife; three daughters, Mrs. Bertha Arnold, Roxana, Ill., Mrs. Oleta Freand, Hillview, Ill., and Mrs. Freda Robeen, Golden Eagle; 4 sons, Henry of Carrollton, Louis, Jr., George and Oscar of St. Louis; 11 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; 3 sisters, Mrs. Caroline Kinder, Brussels, Mrs. Louise Smith, St. Louis, and Mrs. Anna Kinder, Carrollton, Mo.; nieces and nephews.
His remains were carried to their last resting place by six nephews. His body was interred in St. Matthew's Cemetery near the memory stone that was erected in honor of his son, Otto.
The memorial wreaths and many beautiful floral pieces that were received reflected the high esteem in which he was held.
The funeral was under the direction of H. A. Imming of Brussels.
