Riverdale Police Major Greg Barney died as a result of gunfire.

His killer, who was shot in the head. is in custody in a hospital.

Major Barney was a U.S. Navy veteran and had served with the Riverdale Police Department for 26 years and had previously served with the Fulton County Sheriff's Office. He is survived by his wife and 15 year old twin sons.

He is also survived by his many LEO family brothers and sisters.

Since January 1st, 2016, we've lost 8 law enforcement officers as a result of gunfire. Tonight, 2 more officers were shot and are hospitalized in Louisiana. Please pray for their recovery.

Service was at Saint Philip AME Church, 240 Candler Road SE, Atlanta under the direction of Rev. William Watley who delivered the eulogy.

Romans, chapter 5.
“For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. God, proved his love for us while we didn’t deserve it."

Major Barney didn’t die in vain any more than Jesus, who, three days later got up from the grave. God raised him because he will not allow evil to have the last word.

I don't know what God will say to Greg Barney on the other side, but I’d like to think it will be, ‘Servant, well done. The battle is over. The victory is won.’” - Rev Watley.

Thank you to the Angel, Nia Imani-Diarra, who sponsored Greg Barney's memorial.
