Jerry James Rogers Nov. 1, 1943 — Nov. 17, 2009 BLANCHARD — Jerry James Rogers, 66, of Blanchard, passed away on Nov. 17, 2009, in Blanchard.Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. today in Don Grantham Funeral Home at 1502 N. Highway 81 in Duncan.Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, in Chisholm Trail Church of Christ, at 1404 W. Main St. in Duncan, with Larry Branum of Springdale, Ark., Ron Collins, of Panorama City, Calif., and Billy Adcox of Bethany, officiating. Burial will follow in Duncan Cemetery. Arrangements are by Don Grantham Funeral Home.Jerry Rogers was born in Lindsay, to Frank and Sylva Rogers on Nov. 1, 1943. He went to school in Oklahoma until he was 13, then moved to California, where he graduated high school in 1961 from Oceanside High.After moving to Amarillo, Texas, to attend the Amarillo Bible Training Work. He married Gloria Jean Moss on Nov. 21, 1964, in Graham, Texas. After graduation from the Training Work he was ordained as a minister in 1965.He worked as a minister in Churches of Christ in Weatherford, Texas, Linwood, Calif., Bakersfield, Calif., and Fresno, Calif., Duncan, Greenwood, Ark., and Roswell, N.M. He held gospel meetings in Georgia, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, Arkansas, Indiana, Idaho, California and Oregon.He also served as a police chaplain and hospice chaplain in various places, and was on the India Mission board taking multiple trips to India for mission work. He retired from full-time ministry at the end of 2008.Jerry is preceded in death by his father, Frank Rogers.Jerry is survived by his wife, Gloria, of the home; three sons: Kent and wife, Anne-Marie, of Midland, Texas, Kevin and wife, Jody, of Highlands Ranch, Colo., and Korry and wife, Carma, of Norman; mother, Sylva, of Upland, Calif.; two brothers: Clint of Mission Viejo, Calif., and Allen of Vista, Calif.; a sister, Melba Vanderpool, of Upland; grandchildren: Kasen, Kaylee and Karter of Midland, and Evan and Emma of Norman.Bearers will be Ronny Arnold, Ralph Boyd, Wayne Childers, Denny Gumfory, Geary Heilman and Garry Reagan.Memorials may be given to the Jerry Rogers Memorial Fund, First National Bank and Trust, PO Box 2320, Blanchard, OK 73010; or the India Mission Fund, c/o 50th Street Church of Christ, 6035 NW 50th St, Oklahoma City, OK 73122.The family of Jerry Rogers wishes to extend sincere thanks to Dr. Bassam Ghabach, the nurses of the OU Physicians Cancer Clinic, Ross Hospice, and all those who have supported us with their prayers, calls, cards, letters and financial assistance since the cancer began in 2004.Online condolences may be made to the family at www.granthamfuneralhomes.com. .
