L.D., two brothers Christopher, Isaac, sister Mary and the Harriet and Hugh Barkleys homesteaded in Ellis County Kansas 1874-1879. L.D. acquired an 80 acre claim for a $5 filing fee, with a requirement of fencing with limestone posts and building a house. He sold the claim in 1879 for $233 and returned to Putnam County to marry neighbor Hannah Elizabeth Pierson in October 1879. Apparently living on the 85 acres in 1880 with Emanuel and Catherine Easterday.
In late 1881 Pearsons, Easterdays, and Hulls moved to Boynton town lots. In 1883 Lorenzo purchased Section 16 school land from the State of Missouri. Later as a renter and owner in Sullivan County near Boynton.
