Clinton Virginia Easterday, son of Harvey Evans & Lydia (Loser) Easterday. Enlisted May 10, 1864 at Quincy Illinois at age 21 years for 100 day sevice. Captain Castle's Company, Col. Wood Commander.
Private Co. A, 137th Illinois Infantry Civil War. Company A Muster Roll July and August 1864 as Absent. "Detailed as Regt'l teamster July 25, 1864,"Captured in action" near Memphis Tennessee August 21, 1864. [Probably by Confederate Cavalry "Morgan's Raiders" who managed to exchange several privates for a Confederate officer, etc. Those not used as such were taken to Cahaba POW Camp AKA "Castle Morgan" in Selma Alabama where drowning in floodwater was a hazard. Many were moved on to Andersonville Georgia POW Camp in the later months of the war. The Cahaba men were noted as being of good character in a lawless situation in Andersonville Prison.

C.V.Easterday to Andersonville "no date 186_," survived Andersonville POW Camp 1864-1865. Listed as being POW in the 137th records. "Exchanged April 1, 1865" entered on the line "Admitted to Hospital" ___ of Memorandum From Prisoner of War Records No.203.
