Bob “B.J.” Caperton, age 82, of Fort Smith, Arkansas, passed to his heavenly home, Monday, June 22, 2015 in a Fort Smith. He was born on March 11, 1933 in Greenwood, Arkansas to Andrew Jackson and Vera (Starnes) Caperton.

Bob was an active member of Cavanaugh Free Will Baptist Church, retired owner of Caperton Realty where was a real estate broker and a certified general real estate appraiser for the states of Arkansas and Oklahoma, past secretary of the Fort Smith Board of Realtors, past president of the National Association of Independent Fee Appraisers, past master of the Greenwood Masonic Lodge and a 32nd Degree Mason, former board member of the William O. Darby Foundation and the Fort Smith Boy’s Shelter, and past president of the Western Arkansas Girls’ Softball Association where he served multiple years. He proudly served as Sergeant in the United States Army. He was an avid fisherman and member of the Cavanaugh Free Will Baptist Church Bass Club. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, and three brothers.

Funeral services will be held 10:30AM, Thursday, June 25, 2015 at Cavanaugh Free Will Baptist Church with Reverend Will Harmon and Reverend Ray Copeland officiating. Burial with honors will follow in the U.S. National Cemetery under the direction of Ocker-Putman Funeral Home of Fort Smith, Arkansas.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Rohena Mackey Caperton; two daughters, Gina Caperton Ervin and her husband David, of Fayetteville, AR and Lisa Caperton Thompson and her husband Philip, of Fort Smith, AR; six grandchildren, Lacey Ervin Jennen and her husband Aaron of Fort Smith, Trent Thompson and his wife Erin Walker Thompson, of Springdale, Jarrett Thompson and his wife Camille Cook Thompson, of Rogers, Lauren Thompson Bradbury and her husband Ralph Bradbury Jr., of Little Rock, Jeremy Ervin and his fiancée Barbara DeLeon, of Fayetteville, and Meagan Caroline Thompson, of Fort Smith; seven great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers are Philip, Trent and Jarrett Thompson, Jeremy Ervin, Aaron Jennen and Ralph Bradbury, Jr. Honorary Pallbearers are Carroll West, William Wikman, Bill Harmon, Dewey Rogers, Bill Little, Jerry Tomlin and the Cavanaugh Free Will Bass Club members. David Ervin will play bagpipes.

The family will visit with friends from 5:30-7:30 on Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
