Delbert Ervin, age 88 of Charleston Arkansas, joined his heavenly Father, Sunday, February 28, 2016. He was born December 16, 1927 to the late Mollie Pritchett Ervin and Homer Ervin of Charleston.

Delbert was an active member of the community having graduated from Charleston High School in 1946. After graduation, he joined the United States Marine Corps where he was deployed to China. His unit was among the last to leave before the fall of China to the communist government. In high school, and during his military service, Delbert pitched for his respective baseball teams.

After his return to the U.S., Delbert worked for the Water Department for the City of Charleston. He married Mary Belle Delaney, June 11, 1950. Delbert worked for the Adams Box Company where ammo boxes were made for the U.S. government. He was an inspector and a shift supervisor. Thereafter, he worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Charleston for 33 years until his retirement and was a realtor for Caperton Realty in Fort Smith.

Delbert was a faithful attendee of the Marietta Cumberland Presbyterian Church; he was a fifty-year member the Order of the Eastern Star and the Charleston Masonic Lodge where he served as Worthy Patron and Past Master, respectively. He was a member of the American Legion Albert J. Speiler Post #8, the VFW, NRA, and Sons and Daughters of the Old West. He served as a board member of the Franklin County Emergency Management Services, and was co-founder of the historical Belle Museum and Chapel, in Charleston.

Reverend Vondal Davenport will officiate and burial with honors will follow in the U.S. National Cemetery, in Fort Smith under the direction of Smith Mortuary of Charleston Arkansas.

Funeral service will be 10AM Wednesday at Smith Mortuary chapel and burial will follow at U.S. National Cemetery Fort Smith, Arkansas under the direction of Smith Mortuary, Charleston, Arkansas.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 65 years, Mary Belle Delaney Ervin of the home, his daughter, Mary Delaney Quigley and her husband, Tom Quigley of Maramec, Oklahoma, his son David Del Ervin and his wife, Gina Caperton Ervin of Fayetteville, two granddaughters, Lacey Ervin Jennen and her husband Aaron Jennen, of Fort Smith, and Rachel Alewine Bright and her husband David Bright of Tulsa, Oklahoma, two grandsons, John Alewine, of Kansas City, Kansas, and Jeremy Ervin and his fiancée Barbara De Leon of Fayetteville, two great grandsons, Jackson Jennen and David Paul Bright, and three great granddaughters, Parker and London Jennen and Delaney Rose Bright.

Pallbearers will be Aaron Jennen, Jeremy Ervin, Philip Thompson, John Alewine, Fred Freeman and Clay Hiatt. Honorary pallbearers will be Everett Buckner, Ed Storey, Archie, Fred, and Chris Schaffer, Will Schmitz, Marietta Cumberland Presbyterian Church Congregation, Sons and Daughters of the Old West, Buddy Hug and Paul Gramlich, his friends at Bob and Wanda's, and the staff of Charleston Public Schools.

Family will receive friends 6 pm until 8 pm Tuesday at the funeral home.
