Francis Ann Snider was the daughter of Tressie (Trecy) Shuck and Gabriel Snider. According to census records, her father was born in Pennsylvania, her mother, Kentucky (1880 census). Her parents migrated to Missouri and married in 1831, in Ralls County, where Francis was also born.

The 1840 Census reflects that the Gabriel Snider family resided in Saline, Ralls, Missouri. He was engaged in agriculture and the household totaled seven. There were two adults, four children under the age of 5 (three girls, one boy), and one girl between the ages of 5-9.

In 1849, her mother passed. Her father died the following year.

At the 1850 Census, Francis and her sister, Melinda, were enumerated with their maternal grandparents in Ralls, Missouri.

On August 21, 1859, Francis married William L. Mackey in Monroe County Missouri. The marriage took place at the home of James Leakem. Shortly after (1862), William enrolled in the Union Army where he served as Private for the 2nd Missouri, M.S.N. Cavalry, Company E. He was honorably discharged but reenlisted in 1864 at Cape Girardeau. He served in Company G's 13th Missouri Cavalry until he mustered out January 11, 1866, at Fort Leavenworth Kansas.

By the 1870 census the Civil War had ended. At that point, two daughters, Laura Belle and Sarah Etta, had been born and were shown living with Francis and William in Jasper, Taney County, Missouri. William and Frances worked for the Wills family driving their team and keeping their house. Their post office was Forsyth.

By 1880, the family had moved to Ozark, Lawrence County, Missouri and four more children had been born: Ida May, Isora Donna, William S., and James Virgil. John Franklin was born shortly thereafter, June 15, 1880.

William's pension records for his Civil War service note that Francis died January 2nd, 1882, at Taney Como, Missouri. She is presumed by family to be buried on the family home place.

William and remaining children eventually moved to Chester, Crawford County, Arkansas. Eight years after Francis Snider Mackey's death, William remarried in that county and lived out the remainder of his years in the community of Chester.
