The son of Everett Britt and Susan Brumble of Robeson County, NC, he enlisted in Company D of the 18th North Carolina Infantry on October 7, 1861 in Lumberton. During the Battle of Hanover Court House on May 27, 1862, he was wounded in the leg and captured. He was taken to Tripler Hospital with a compound fracture of the tibia, which he later died from. He never married.

His brother, Amos Britt, was also wounded in the foot during the battle. Everett is one of only ten Confederate soldiers buried in this cemetery.

Note: His headstone incorrectly spells his last name as 'Brett,' not Britt.
