GREENVILLE ADVOCATE - 30DEC1963 - DR. VERN C. BALDWIN, PROMINENT DENTIST OF SPRINGFIELD, DIES - BORN NEAR PLEASANT MOUND; WAS FORMER CO. TEACHER
Dr. Vern C. Baldwin, 77, prominent Springfield dentist, a native of Pleasant Mound Twp., & a brother of Mrs. Lottie B. Painter of Smithboro, died at St. John's hospital in Springfield at 6:15 p.m., 10Dec, after a lingering illness.
Private funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., 13Dec at the Bisch Memorial Home & interment was in Roselawn cemetery.
Dr. Baldwin was born on a farm near Pleasant Mound, 30Dec1885, he was the son of Charles Henry & Serena Elvina Baldwin, being aged 77 years, 11 months & 10 days. He taught school in Bond Co. & received his undergraduate training in Valparaiso, IN University. He attended the school of Dentistry of St. Louis University, & received his degree in 1916. Before moving to Springfield he practiced dentistry in Beardstown. Following post-graduate training in oral surgery, he moved to Springfield where he practiced for more than 36 years.
Surviving are his widow, Ethel Grace; a son Dr. Jack Baldwin; 3 grandchildren, all of Springfield; & the sister, Mrs. Painter, above mentioned, she being the last of the family, a brother & a sister having preceded Dr. Baldwin in death. He was a member of the Methodist church in Springfield.
