Verl Eliza Crielle Burkhart was the youngest of three children born to Crill Davidson and Lola Amelia (Froman) Burkhart on March 13, 1892, in Harrisburg, Linn County, Oregon, on a portion of the original donation land claim of Coriolanus Domarus Burkhart, the third child of John and Rebecca Burkhart. Verl's older brother, Tommy L (for Leander?) Burkhart died the same year she was born. Her older sister, Zella Maysel, had been born just nine months before her. She attended primary and secondary school in Albany, then went on to attend and graduate from Albany College, which later moved to Portland and renamed Lewis & Clark College. Verl was a certified teacher, as was her sister, and taught school in the Linn County area for her life long career. Verl never married, but chose to live with her parents at least until 1930, when she was 37 yrs. old. Later she lived with her sister, Zella, living an independent life of a single woman with countless Burkhart and Davidson family members throughout Oregon, Washington and California. Both Verl and Zella had a strong Christian faith and would travel, sometimes, to Eugene, among other places to hear Evangelists speak. Sadly, Verl's sister, Zella passed away on the 4th of July, 1984. Verl passed from this world the following year on Oct 17th, 1985. The two sisters share a headstone by their brother and parents at Albany Masonic Cemetery, Albany, Linn County, Oregon. I wish I had met her. I knew her sister well and feel it was my loss that I didn't know Verl as well.
