Sarah was the daughter of "Rolly" Raleigh Dodson (1806-1884)and Elizabeth [Burnett] Dodson (1807-1892), born on Feb 2nd, 1842 on her parents' farm at Sinking Creek, Wayne County, Kentucky. She was one of 14 children borne of her parents' union. Her siblings were:
Thomas, Seward, George, Jesse, Bertha, Elizabeth, James, Winnifred, Joseph, Mary, Isham Burnett, Ruth and Leonard.
When the 1850 Census was taken on Sep 7, 1850, there were 10 children living with their parents on the family's farm, valued at $3,000 as of that date and all persons, including her parents, were natives of Kentucky. Her uncle, Jason, his wife and their eight children lived adjacent to her parents.
Sarah married William Carroll Gholson on Feb 22nd, 1861. I have tried, without success, to locate Census records for her and her husband for 1870 and 1880 without any luck (just tried again Apr 2016). It is very frustrating as during this time they had eight children and relocated to Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio, living in town, which is quite a change from farming in Kentucky. Their children were:
Laura Cathron, b. Feb 2, 1862, Wayne Co., Kentucky
Charles Payne, b. Jun 4, 1868, Wayne Co., Kentucky
Georgia L., b. Sep 1870, Wayne Co., Kentucky and her twin, Leonard, b. Sep 1870, Wayne Co., Kentucky (who died soon afterwards),
Willie Mae, b.Apr 13, 1873, Lenoir Co., North Carolina
Marcus Carroll, b.Feb 1877, Georgia
Ben Hill, b. Aug 1882, Georgia and
George Leonard, b Dec 1885, Ohio.

The 1900 census lists that they had 4 children living at home, although Sarah bore eight children during their marriage. William and Sarah had been married 39 yrs and were now living in Cincinnati, Hamilton Co., Ohio, where William sold wire fencing. Daughter Georgia was a stenographer. Marcus Carroll was also in wire fencing sales, young Ben was a Drug salesman and young George was a student "at school". In 1910, Sarah was a widow, with George having passed away Apr 28, 1906 from a Cerebral Hemorrhage while a patient at Longview Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was buried at Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio. Sarah, her elder daughter, Georgia, now 39, and also a widow lived with Sarah's son, George Leonard, 25, who was married to Mary E., three yrs. his senior. There were no children in their marriage of two years and George is listed as a Wholesale Book Collector. Sarah was listed as Head of the Household at her house on Main Avenue, Millcreek, Elmwood Place Village, Hamilton County, Ohio.
Sarah herself passed away on Feb 2nd, 1923, in Cincinnati, Ohio and was interred at the same cemetery as her husband, Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati, Hamilton Co., Ohio.

Her daughter, Willie Mae Gholson, married Thomas Lassiter Warters in 1861; they are my paternal great grandparents. May they all Rest, at Peace, in Paradise.
