Bertha Frances McPhail, 85, Comanche, Oklahoma died Saturday afternoon, November 17, 1979, at a Lawton, Oklahoma nursing home after a long illness.

Mrs. McPhail was born April 13, 1894 in Lockport, New York. She was a pioneer area reacher and a member of the Comanche Garden Club and the Sorosis Club. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and was a Sunday School teacher.

She married Elbert Gates McPhail, Sr., May 24, 1913 in Comanche. He preceded her in death on March 17, 1971.

Survivors include three sons, Gates McPhail, Jr. of Duncan, Oklahoma, Preston McPhail of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, and Arthur McPhail of Norman, Oklahoma; one daughter, Mrs. Frances Ireland of Lawton, Oklahoma; thirteen grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be held Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in Comanche. Rev. Jay Martin will officiate. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Morehead Funeral Home.
