William Haddaway Dawson was the son of Joseph Harrington Dawson and Mary Haddaway. He married Sophia Kemp on 17 Nov. 1828 in Talbot County, Maryland.

In 1850, he was residing in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. In 1852, he purchased "Parrishe's Park, Resurveyed" in what is now Shadyside. He resided there briefly with his family until he sold the property in 1854 and moved to the Churchton area. When he died, his inventory included a Grist Mill and 5 boats.
