Mrs. Bassett was born in Brockton and graduated from Dennis-Yarmouth High School in 1960. She worked for nearly 14 years as a payroll specialist at George Washington University. She was a resident of Virginia for 14 years.
Mrs. Bassett was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 2578 in Hyannis and was a big fan of NASCAR racing.
She is survived by her father and stepmother, her mother, Carolyn L. Tinkham, of South Yarmouth; two sons, a brother, two sisters, six stepchildren; 19 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and one great-nephew.
A gathering will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave., South Yarmouth, with a procession at 2 p.m. to Chandler Gray Cemetery in West Yarmouth for a graveside service. A reception in celebration of her life will follow at Gull Wing Suites, Route 28, South Yarmouth.
Visiting hours are 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
