Born in February of 1846 in New York, Constantine Dickerson, Sr. was the son of Sanders Dickerson, Sr. and his wife Caroline.

Constantine grew up in the 12th Ward of Brooklyn. He enlisted during the Civil War on September 1, 1864 to serve the Union as a Private in Company A, 65th Infantry Regiment New York. He was mustered out of Company A on July 17, 1865 at Hall's Hill, Virginia.

Constantine worked along with his father as a ship's caulker in the years after he returned home from the Civil War.

He married Mary Heritage (b. March 1854)on January 9, 1877 in Brooklyn, N.Y. The marriage was witnessed by the groom's Mother, Caroline. The minister o the wedding ceremony was E.H. Flemming of William Street in Brooklyn.

The children of Constantine and Mary included:

Mamie Dickerson (b. May 1877). Mamie appears as Mary or Mary Dickerson, Jr. in Census Records after 1900.

George Dickerson (b. April 1884)

In the 1900 Federal Census Mary Dickerson is recorded as the mother of 13 children, 9 of whom were still living at that time.

In the 1870s through the 1880s Constantine and Mary Dickerson lived with their family in Brooklyn's 12th Ward. In the 1900 Federal Census they are recorded as living in the 8th Ward near the Gowanus Canal on 19th Street.
