STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Native Staten Islander Denis C. Ragucci, 64, of Manchester, N.J., a retired electrician and loving family man, died Friday in the Shorrock Gardens Care Center, Brick, N.J., after a brief stay.
Born and raised in West Brighton, he also lived in Westerleigh for 22 years. He relocated to Manchester in 2002.
Mr. Ragucci attended Port Richmond High School and later earned an associate's degree from the College of Staten Island.
He served in the U.S. Army during the 1960s.
Mr. Ragucci was an electrician for 36 years and a member of Local 3, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He retired in 2004 and was active in the Staten Island and New Jersey Electrical Workers Retirees, and Koupaun Council, Knights of Columbus.
He enjoyed fishing and hunting, and spent many happy hours tending his vegetable garden. He was fond of traveling and had taken several cruises with his wife, the former Geraldine Ferolie. The couple also recently traveled by train to Seattle, to visit their daughter, Janine Ragucci.
"He thought of his nieces, Jessica and Stephanie, as his daughters," she said.
While living on the Island, Mr. Ragucci was a parishioner of Holy Family R.C. Church, Westerleigh. In Manchester, he attended St. John's R.C. Church.
Surviving, along with Geraldine, his wife of 44 years, and his daughter, Janine, are his brother, Anthony, and his mother, Antoinette Ragucci.
The funeral will be Tuesday from the Matthew Funeral Home, Willowbrook, with a mass at 9:45 a.m. in Holy Family Church. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery, West Brighton.
