Thank you for visiting Brand. Your visit is very appreciated by our family. God bless.

Brand Kingsley Whitlock, II was born May 1, 1940 in Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California, USA, and was the son of Brand Kingsley Whitlock, II (of Topeka, Shawnee, Kansas, USA) and Ray Angle (born about 1920 in California, USA). His parents married December 3, 1938 in California. I found only one Ray Whitlock, female, listed in the 1964 for Alhambra, Los Angeles, California, USA, and she was employed by Baskin-Robbins Ice Cream. No other information has been found for Ray. Not sure if this Ray Whitlock listed in the directory was Ray Angle Whitlock. Brand's father was given custody of his son when they divorced or shortly after, which means she would have either been found unfit as a mother due to health reasons or due to other issues such as lack of income or other reasons. When Brand's father married Helen Rose Brown Whitlock he was adopted by Helen. This would mean the biological mother was no longer in Brand's life as a young child of not quite 4 years old. Brand did state he had no recollection of his birth mother, and considered Helen to be his mother. Concerning Helen, I find little about her parents. Her mother was Katharyn M Vogenberg Brown born in about 1901 in Pennsylvania, and married Charles Bruen/Brown September 19, 1930 in Los Angeles, California, USA, and her last name was listed as Vogenberg. Helen was born September 25, 1922 in Pennsylvania, USA, which was prior to Katheryn marrying Charles Brown. In records for the marriage of Helen to Brand(II) her last name is listed as Vogenberg. I'm not able to find any information about her biological father. Apparently Charles Brown did not adopt Helen since her last name was listed as Vogenberg on a marriage document. On other documents her last name is listed as Brown. So, it seems Charles was her stepfather only even though her last name Brown is listed as her maiden name on some documents. I have not been able to find her biological father other than a last name, and I don't know her mother's maiden name. When I stayed a short time at the farm in Haggerstown in Indiana Elva took her children and me to relatives of Helen's known by the last name of Brown, and one of the women was told to me to be a sister or sister-in-law of Helen's with the last name of Brown. They were very nice people, and I was greeted and treated as if I were family just like they treated Elva's children. So, for all intents and purposes since Helen was just shy of being 8 years old by a few days when her mother married Charles Brown she became interwoven into the Brown family as if she were a Brown family member by blood. They all spoke very fondly of Helen when I met them, so the love for each other in the family was true. Helen is listed as the stepdaughter of Charles Brown in the US Federal 1940 Census.

Brand married Erma McCain in about 1963, and they were divorced by Nov 19, 1968 in Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio, USA.

Known children of Brand Kingsley,II, and Erma Lee McCain Whitlock:

1) David Whitlock born about 1963

I know this to be correct because when Brand and Elva lived with Elva's father Erma dropped David off to live with his father Brand. She said she was tired of taking care of him and Brand could have him for awhile. Who just drops off their son they fought for custody during the divorce? I mean, children are not dogs that when they are dealing with behavior issues the parent can just drop them off. Naturally David resented Brand due to how his mother spoke about Brand, and there was little relationship between them sadly. After all, Erma and Brand had fought so much Brand just walked away finally. Brand also had issues of his own from childhood. No wonder! David did have serious abusive behavior issues to the point Brand was told David had to go, or they all would have to leave along with David. It was sad no one sought to find help for David. Very few records are found for him. I found only one, but it really was not detailed enough to be of much use. Last we heard he was in a prison, which could explain why there were few records for him, but since I can't find records concerning this, that information may not be correct either. I hope David was finally able to find help in sorting things out, and was able to make a better life for himself.

Brand then married Elva Mae Sterling Kinner Whitlock January 18 1969 in Warren County, Ohio, USA. Brand adopted Elva's daughter Kristine Alice Kinner from Elva's prior marriage to Ronald L. Kinner. Kris married a man from Arkansas who has been a good husband to her and a good father to their two daughters. I was able to locate her biological father finally and they were able to meet and bond together, so I hope some healing was given to each other during their time together forming their longed for bonding. Attached to Elva's memorial is a photo of Ronnie and Kris when they first got back together. Both had struggled with emotional and mental issues that hopefully this offered healing and strength for them both.

Parents to Kristine's Husband:

Earl Ray Abner, Father

Gladys Kenner Abner, Mother

Known children of Brand Kingsley, II, and Elva Mae Sterling Kinner Whitlock:

1) Brand Kingsley Whitlock, Jr. (III), born November 18, 1969 in Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio, USA. Brand Jr married and divorced 2 times.

2) Stephen Lawrence Whitlock, born November 18, 1971 in Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio, USA. He married Paula Carol Pittser Whitlock (Edwards) in about 1990 in Arkansas, USA, and they divorced in 1993 in Arkansas. They had two children: Kema (also spelled Kima) born June 11, 1990 in Little Rock, Pulaski County, Arkansas, USA; and Jeremy Whitlock born March 16, 1992 in Fort Smith, Sebastian County, Arkansas, USA. Paula was probably the sweetest soul I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. Stephen did marry again in Colorado where he currently lives with his second wife and their children.

༺⊰❁ He was an excellant artist. When I first met him I was still very young and he taught me how to shade with a pencil and how to blend colors when coloring. He also taught me about flesh colors and what colors to blend together to aquire various skin tones. I remember thinking he was a pretty nifty guy, but I informed him he was not the one! He asked what I meant. I informed him he was not the boyfriend I was looking for though he was pretty good at blending colors. He laughed and told me it was a good thing since he was already Elva Mae's boyfriend and if he was my boyfriend, too, it would be a problem.

He worked for Carlisle & Finch as a tool and dye maker until the mid 1970s. He moved his family in the middle of the night without a word. We found them again living in Hagerstown, Indiana about 1980. In the later 1980s they moved to Ruby, Arkansas.

Brand loved John Wayne! Anything John Wayne! He watched every movie he made numerous times and had paintings of him hanging up throught his home. So, here is a tribute to you, Brand, and to John Wayne. I hope you found your El Dorado in heaven.

Elvis Presley was Brand and Elva Mae's favorite singer and had the oppertunity to see him preform once in Las Vegas, Nevada.

He died due to heart disease in the hospital in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He will always be missed. May he rest in God's peace.
