Sarah Louise Womack Putman Miller, age 91, passed away early March 24th in Mansfield, Texas after a short illness. She was born on May 7, 1919 in Trinity Mills, Texas to parents Henry Clay Womack and Martha Lester Womack. She married Claude G. Putman, and after his death, she later married Paul Miller.

Louise graduated from North Texas State University with her Masters Degree in Education and had a long dedicated career teaching children. She started in McCurley Prairie, Texas and after several decades of teaching in Corsicana she retired. Generations of students loved having her as their teacher. She was honored to be the first white teacher at Lincoln Elementary which was at that time an all black school. Louise's commitment to her profession continued after she left the classroom as she served as an officer in several different areas of the retired teachers association. Louise was a loving caring person who will be missed by many. She had a great gift for making others feel special. Even after the losing her sight she continued to help others by sharing her special gift of love. Louise was a longtime active member of The North Beaton Church of Christ and an active member of the Corsicana State Home Ex-students where she served many years as their official bell ringer. She was an avid genealogist, researching the Womack and Lester families for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents Henry Clay & Martha Womack, her brothers Hope Womack and Paul Womack, her sister Garnette Stockard, and her husbands, Claude Guy Putman and Paul Miller. She is survived by her nephews Bill Stockard of California, Ramon Womack, nieces, Dora Anne Sides, Carolyn Womack, Ann Womack Lee and her husband Terry, all of Texas; as well as several great-nephews and great-nieces.

Graveside services were held on Sunday, March 27, 2011 at the Dawson Cemetery with her great-nephew, Rev. Clay Womack, and Mr. Steve Orbison officiating.
