Spc. Edward J. Acosta, 21, of Hesperia, Calif., died March 5, in La Jolla, Calif., of injuries sustained Dec. 3, 2011, when his vehicle was struck by an improvised-explosive device in Wardak province, Afghanistan. Acosta was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 5th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, Fort Bliss, Texas. Spc Acosta was serving in the United States Army and was awarded the Purple Heart and Combat Medic Badge and the Bronze Star. He is survived by his wife, Lindsay Acosta of Apple Valley; his daughter Emmalyn Acosta of Apple Valley; his grandmother Betty McCarty of Ventura; his grandfather Michael McCarty of Phoenix AZ; his mother Sheryl Acosta of Hesperia; his father Ernest Acosta Jr. of Hesperia; his sister Noelle Acosta of New York; his sister Laura Acosta of Ventura; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Services will be held March 17, 2012, 11am at Sunset Hills Memorial Park in Apple Valley CA; Pastor Casey Kendall will officiate.
