Mary Alice was my grandmother. She raised two children after her husband died. She was an astute business woman and ran the Carolina Hotel in Sanford and a hotel in Sumter SC.
She did a lot of traveling ,especially with women's clubs. She came to visit us when we were stationed in Germany and England.
She lived on Ramsey St in Fayetteville ,NC and out back was a small log cabin that she rented out. Way in the back was a chicken coop and a forest of bamboo. We used to hide under her big four poster bed when playing hide and seek.
Most people called her Miss Mary Alice.
I always remember good times when we visited and the times we stayed at her house.
