Elizabeth was born in the home of her parents, in Calumet City, IL. Her family moved to Hammond, IN, just across the state line just south of Chicago. She was a member of her high school orchestra, playing the string bass. She worked at Bell Telephone in Hammond, and then as a switchboard operator at the DuPont Company. She left there when the soldier she had replaced returned from WWII. Elizabeth then attended business school and became a teller at The Calumet National Bank in Hammond. She was promoted to Asst. Head Teller and retired after 30 years. She was married to Robert W Habben and had one son, David, in 1952. In 1958, she married George Spanos. George had a daughter, Teri, and a son, Roger, from previous marriages.

She and her husband George moved to Placerville, CA in 1980 after they both "retired." After arrival in Placerville, she worked as a teller at Security Pacific Bank for the next 5 years. She worked for K-Mart for the next 10 1/2 years.

Elizabeth was an Eastern Star since she was 18, joining with her mother, Flora Baxter. She was also a volunteer at Marshall Hospital and very active in their church.

She was preceded in death by her husband George (just 6 weeks earlier), and her siblings, Cleo, June, Margery and Herman, Jr. and her parents Herman and Flora Baxter.
