Carl East - former major league baseball player and minor league baseball star. He was president of the Georgia-Alabama League in 1946. Broke into baseball in 1912 with Lindale, Ga team which was managed by a woman, Lillian Duke who may be the only woman to manage in professional baseball. He is 4th on all time highest batting average in minor leagues. Played 1912-1917, WWI service in 1918, Sioux City in 1919, Wichita in 1920, 21 and 22. Minneapolis Millers in 1923, Washington Senators in 1924 (Major Leagues).04-28-1924- Traded by Minneapolis (American Association) (with Clarence Fisher) to Washington Senators for Clarence Fisher. Played independent ball in the Mid-West league 1924-1928. Birmingham in 1928, Chattanooga 1929 and wound up his playing career in Anniston of the GA-AL league in 1930 with .433 batting average, following start as manager in Carrollton in 1930 (he moved to Anniston in July 1930). He was awarded the Silver Bat. The trophy was awarded to the Minor League batting champions from 1934 to 1948.

Passed away at age 58 on Jan 15, 1953. He was survived by one daughter, Buelah East Tornquist, three sisters, one brother and one grandson.
