March 20, 1866 he was married to Loueza Mayer of Urbana, Ohio. Eight children were born: Earnest A., Christopher F., William J., Clara L., Anna M., Effie H., Kate C., and Frank R.
In 1872 he settled in Flora, then moved to the present home in 1874 where he united with the Methodist Church near Zif, Illinois.
