JEFFERSON - Services for Mildred Grubbs, 89, of Linden, will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, June 5, 2009, at the First Baptist Church in Linden, with the Rev. Phil Starrett officiating. Burial will be at the New Prospect Cemetery.

Mrs. Grubbs passed away Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at her residence. She was born December 18, 1919, in Linden to A.R. and Maye Goodman Gammill.

Mrs. Grubbs graduated from Linden High School in 1936. She worked for the Draft Board in the 1940s, where she met Clarence Grubbs. They were married on March 6, 1944. She also worked for the Marion County Tax Office for many years, as well as owning and operating the Grubbs Store in the Prospect Community with her husband, Clarence, from the mid-1950s through the mid-1970s.

She was a devout Christian, a member of the New Prospect Baptist Church where she served as Treasurer for forty-one years. She later became a member of the First Baptist Church of Linden, after moving there in 1979. Mrs. Grubbs enjoyed cooking for her family – and was quite well known in the community for her chocolate pies and Italian crème cakes. She is survived by her children, Loy Dale Grubbs and wife Judy, Sandra Hall and husband John and Randy Grubbs of Linden, and Larry Grubbs and wife Kay of Jefferson; eight grandchildren, Denice Whatley and husband Bruce, Evan Hall and wife Melissa, Amanda Hall, Chad Grubbs and wife Michele, Clay Grubbs and wife Kristy, Codi Smith and husband David, Amber Hitchcock and husband Bruce, and Levi Grubbs and fiancée Rachel Irving; nine great-grandchildren, Luke Hall, John Randall Fitts, Makenzie Hicks, Cal Grubbs, Noah Grubbs, Tucker Grubbs, Ashlyn Smith, Cody Whatley, Kayla Blake and husband Tim; and one great-great-grandchild, Rowdy Blake.

Active pallbearers will be Chad Grubbs, Clay Grubbs, Levi Grubbs, Bruce Hitchcock, Evan Hall, Luke Hall, Bruce Whatley, and David Smith.

Honorary pallbearers will be Noah Grubbs, John Randall Fitts, Makenzie Hicks,

Tucker Grubbs, and Cal Grubbs.
