Earl Smith, 78, of Clay City, died at 8:45 a.m. Wednesday at John Cochran Veterans Hospital, St. Louis, Mo.

Born March 5, 1896 in Clay County, he married Laura Cooper May 21, 1921 in Sailor Springs. She survives.

Mr. Smith was a member of the Clay City American Legion and the Flora VFW.

Also surviving are a son, Willard, Lake Villa; a daughter, Mrs. Lindell (Betty) Tolliver, LaPorte, Ind.; two brothers, Harold, of Clay City, and Opal, Detroit, Mich.; three sisters, Mrs.
Hazel Webb, Mrs. Ethel Bryant and Mrs. Maydine Snell, all of Clay City; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

Services will be at the Cardascio- Easley Funeral Home, Clay City. Burial will be in the Clay City Cemetery.
