Bordschütze (Air Gunner) Unteroffizier Hans-Eberhard Haase died during his 169 mission against Birmingham, England on 30.7.1942. Haase was posthumous awarded the Luftwaffe Honor Goblet in January 1943.

His crew had successfully bombed Birmingham and was on his way back to their base in Belgium. They had technical problems with the altimeter but didnŽt realize it. In addition to that it was a very cloudy day. Shortly before the base at Eupen, Belgium, the aircraft hit the ground 2 times and finally crashed. Pilot Feldwebel Lischinski, observer Oberfeldwebel Freiberg, and radio operator Unteroffizier Petig were found immediately. Haase was missed and finally found 3 weeks later.

Unteroffizier Haase was highly decorated and was awarded the Luftwaffe Honor Goblet for outstanding bravery! He served with Kampfgeschwader "Totenkopf" 54 and Kampfgeschwader 76 which was part of the Gefechtsverband Bormann. This unit used He 111 and Ju 88.


Hans had been awarded the: Luftwaffe Bomber Clasp in Bronze, Silver, and Gold; Luftwaffe Air Gunners badge; Eastern Campaign Medal; Iron Cross 1st and 2nd class; Luftwaffe Honor Goblet; Knights Cross of the Iron Cross; and the Oakleaves to the Knights Cross of the Iron Cross.



He fought and died for his country and should be remembered as all those whom have made the ultimate sacrifice for there country.
