Major League Baseball Player. He was a second baseman making his debut for the Pittsburgh Pirates on April 16, 1909. In his rookie season, he drove in 87 runs, helping the Pittsburgh Pirates win the American League Pennant and their first World Series Championship title in 1909. From 1909 to 1911, he was the Pittsburgh Pirates' regular second baseman before being moved to first base. For twelve seasons, he played with the Pittsburgh Pirates (1909-13), St Louis Cardinals, (1914-17, 1919) and Philadelphia Phillies (1920-21). He finished his career with a record of 1526 hits, 711 runs scored, 32 home runs, 715 runs batted in and a .263 batting average. He went on to become manager of the Pacific Coast League San Francisco Seals in 1922 and led them to the pennant in his first year. He died the next season from tuberculosis at age 36.
