Obituary of Jerrylyn Beaman

Jerrylyn Alexis Beaman (nee: Cundiff) 68, Of Atlantic City, went home to be with the Lord on July 18, 2010 at the Atlantic Care Regional Medical Center-City Campus, after a valiant battle with cancer.

"Gerri", as she was affectionately called, was born to Peaches and Perry Cundiff on April 27, 1942 in Atlantic City. Gerri attended the local public schools and was a member of Atlantic City High School's Class of 1960. In 1962, she married Joseph C. Beaman, and in 1967 they became the proud parents of Joseph C. Beaman Jr. "Joey" was the love of her life.

Gerri was a life-long member of Saint Monica's Roman Catholic Church, which her father helped to build. She devoted much of her time to the church and was an active member of the Parish Council. For more than 30 years Gerri was employed by the New Jersey State News Company, from which she retired in 2000. After her retirement she went to work as the property manager of the Elliott House, where she was dedicated to her senior citizen tenants.

Gerri became a member of the Les Femmes social club in 1963, which included house wives and mothers. The social club produced shows which included comedy skits and production numbers. The dance steps were choreographed by Pattie Harris and the late Charles Mungin. The shows drew wall to wall people at the fabulous Club Harlem.

In the 1970's she started a modeling group called "Gerri Beaman's A Touch of Class" which lasted for more then 25 years. Her group featured everyone, incorporating her "BBW's" Big Beautiful Women, as well as her "Fabulous Seniors", into different parts of her shows. A few years later Gerri also brought the teens and tots on the scene.

Gerri was the 3rd Ward Democratic Committee Woman of Atlantic County and a charter member fo the AC Demo Club. She was also a member of various organizations including: The NAACP, Women for Change, the Wee Women Social Club, and the Just Friends Birthday Club. She always found time to help to feed the homeless with the United Sisters Plus One Group at the Hamilton Memorial United Methodist Church.

Gerri was an active member of the community and received many awards including the prestigious A. Phillip Randoph Award. She was involved in providing students with scholarships and toys for children at Christmas. Many enjoyed the bus trips to the Baltimore Harbor and the Massachusetts Lobsterfest that she organized. She also shined as a Wedding & Event Coordinator and much, much more! Gerri was also a die-hard eagles fan!

Gerri was predeceased by her brothers, Richard, Donald and Darwin Cundiff. She leaves to cherish fond and loving memories: son, Joseph C Beaman Jr.(Amelia); grandchildren, Joseph C. Beaman III and Evelyn Jackson; sisters, Patricia "Tissie" Davis, Atlantic City, NJ, Jan "Bunny" Burroughs, Bowie, Maryland and Sadie Jones, Atlantic City, NJ; Godchildren; Mark, Lil Hope, Scott Gallagher(Hope); adopted children Raymond adn Amin Bethea, Mikal Nelson, and Faletta Hare; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
