Served in the United States Army and was deployed to Iraq where he served as an automatic rifleman until Jan. 10, 2005. His awards and decorations include the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, and the Combat Infantryman's Badge. Cpl. Castillo was posthumously awarded the Army Commendation Medal for his dedicated service to the unit and the United States Army.
