John was educated in Cape Verde and moved to Brockton at the age of 17 and in 1946 he moved to Avon. He was a World War II Veteran serving in the U.S. Army and he worked as a cook for local hospitals for many years. He was a 3rd Order of St. Francis, at the West Gate Chapel in Brockton since 1984. He enjoyed gardening, playing his mandolin, carpentry, cooking and sewing and was an avid reader. He was a Communicant of St. Michaels Church in Avon.
In addition to his wife he is survived by three children, 8 grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, a brother, a sister, 5 nieces and nephews, many cousins and friends.
A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday June 26, 2014 at 10 AM in St. Michael's Church in Avon. Visitation will take place on Wednesday June 25, 2014 from 4-7 PM in the Dahlborg-MacNevin Funeral Home, 647 Main Street, Brockton, Massachusetts. Interment will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery.
