Age 91, a lifelong resident of the city of Wilmington, DE, died at his home at Shipley Manor on August 4, 2009.
"Eddie" was born in 1918, the only child of Samuel Edward Anderson and Margaret Long Anderson. He attended Wilmington High School, was a member of the first graduating class of P.S. duPont High School and graduated from the University of Delaware in 1940. A gifted athlete, he was the center for the team that opened the first basketball season in the new P.S. duPont gymnasium and went on to captain both the University of Delaware's basketball and golf teams, scoring 186 points as Delaware's basketball captain in 1940. After serving as a naval communications officer in Trinidad, BWI, during WWII, he returned to work for the DuPont Company, Gulf Oil Company and B. Gary Scott Realtors. He was a member of the DuPont Masonic Lodge No. 29.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 58 years, Maude Carlon, and is survived by 2 daughters, Gail (Thomas) Bruhn of Storrs, CT, Elaine (Radu) Filimon of Arlington, VA; 5 grandchildren Peter (Laura), Nathaniel (Sarah) and Andrew Bruhn, Erik (Danae) Pack and Vanessa (William) Bisceglia as well as 7 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at Mt. Salem Cemetery on Saturday, August 8, at 11 am.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Compassionate Care Hospice, 702 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19805.
