Fred Avery Atnip was born on April 16, 1938 in Shelbyville, Tennessee to Lofton Atnip, Sr. and Kathleen (White) Atnip. He was educated in Shelbyville High School and graduated from college in 1961 in Crossville, Tennessee. He worked with the Highway Department before college and after college worked for Illinois Highway Department. He was ROTC in college and served in the United States Air Force, as a Lieutenant, for 2 years, at Dyess Air Force Base. He was a civil engineer working for the Texas Highway Department as Resident Engineer in Stephenville for 16 years. Then he worked for the National Park Service for 20 years. He worked in parks from Colorado to Utah to Arkansas, Missouri, Upper Peninsula of Michigan, New York City, Florida, Mississippi, and Indiana. For 30 years he was involved in the Boy Scouts and loved wood working and had a love for Eagles. He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Judy Atnip of Rocksprings; blended family, Todd Atnip and spouse Sherry of Nashville, TN, Tracy Pettijohn and spouse Chris and Dina Riggins and husband Scott of Abilene, TX, Monique Hill of Comanche, TX, William Tolbert Burrow of Houston, TX, and Jenny Stoops of Yellville, AR; brother, Lofton Atnip, Jr.; sister, Mattie Ray Wiser; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
