Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at the East Laurinburg Baptist Church with burial following in the Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Pastor Richard Tyson and Pastor Kenneth Blease will be officiating the services.
John was born December 18, 1930 in Cumberland County, son of the late Mary Autry. He was a Veteran of the United States Army retiring with more the 20 years of dedicated service. He then worked with the North Carolina Department of Transportation and L.O.F. / Pilkington Glass, retiring after many years of service. He was a member of the East Laurinburg Baptist Church and enjoyed reading, watching NASCAR and Football. He was a devoted husband and father that loved his time with family and friends.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Hazel Ford.
He is survived by his wife, Lessie Mae Carlisle Autry of Laurinburg, sons, Johnny Newton Autry and wife Rebecca of Charlotte, Lee Autry and wife Mary of Laurinburg, David Autry of Laurinburg; daughters, Ruth Ann Carter and husband Tony of Concord, Patricia Autry of Laurinburg; brothers, Oliver S. Autry of New York and Edward E. Autry of Creedmoor; fifteen grandchildren, twenty four great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
