BENNETT, COLO. - Mary L. (Settle) Margheim, 81, of Bennett, Colo., died Feb. 5, 2007.

She was born May 31, 1925, on the farm near McCallister to George J. Settle and Vera B. (Knox) Settle.

On Feb. 24, 1946, she married Waldo Alexander Margheim Sr., in Russell. He died March 4, 1967.

Margheim grew up and attended school in Winona. She especially loved her family and tried to always be involved in all they did. She enjoyed playing piano with her children and grandchildren.

Margheim and her children delivered newspapers and she welcomed her children's animals, as well as her own.

She worked in several restaurants as a cook and owned and operated her own ceramic shop, "Muddy Fingers Ceramics," and belonged to the International Ceramic Shop for many years.

Margheim was a Girl and Boy Scouts of America leader and a 4-H Club leader. She also belonged to the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.

She loved to sew, cook, crochet, read and watch soap operas and the news. She also loved her flowers and gardening.

She is survived by one brother, Lester Settle of Salina; one sister, Betty Davis of Guymon, Okla.; six sons, Donald of Bethany, Okla.; Jerry of Oakley; Waldo Jr., of Oakley; Michael of Winona; Kenneth of Lakewood, Colo., and Robert of Aurora, Colo.; six daughters, Mary Jean West of Goodland; Katherine Kurka of Bennett; Patricia Goodwin of Winona; Rebecca Dickman of Garden City and Laura Fay Marghiem and Joyce Margheim, both of Bennett.

Margheim had more than 30 grandchildren and more than 50 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, grandparents, one daughter, Carol Darlene, and one son, Stephen James.

The funeral is 2 p.m. CT Feb. 18 at Harrison Chapel, 190 S. Franklin, in Colby.

Burial will follow at Beulah Cemetery in Colby. A luncheon at the Winona Grill in Winona will commence after the burial.
