Willie W. Boyd Jr., 91, of Afton, Virginia, slipped peacefully into eternal rest on Monday, March 12, 2012, at the Hospice House in Charlottesville, Virginia. He was born in Portsmouth, Virginia, on September 29, 1920, to the late Willie and Kizzie (Boone) Boyd. He was a watchcare member of Mount Zion Baptist Church and served on the Trustee Board. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Roxie Hyater; and one brother, Dennis Boyd Sr. He leaves to cherish his memories, a loving and devoted wife of 20 years, Tressie L Boyd of the residence; two daughters, Pamela Chamberlain of Washington, D.C. and Jeanetta Burton and Maynard of Keswick, Virginia; one grandson, Damon Lawson of Washington, D.C.; three granddaughters, Cynanna Chamberlain of Washington, D.C., Emily Walker and Kimberly Clark of Richmond, Virginia; two sisters-in-law, Edna and Minnie Lockett of Afton, Virginia; four nephews, John "Sonny-Boy" Hyater and Carolyn of Bowie, Maryland, Elder Marvin Boyd and Kimberley of Portsmouth, Virginia, Dennis Boyd Jr. and Alaise of Washington, D.C., and Leonard Boyd of Upper Marlboro, Maryland; his canine companion "Peanut"; a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, March 19, 2012, at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Greenwood, Virginia, by Pastor Kathleen Burnett and the body will be placed at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Mount Zion Baptist Church Cemetery in Yancey Mills, Virginia.

Public viewing will be held from 1 until 6 p.m. Sunday, March 18, 2012, at McCutcheon's Funeral Home with the family being present from 5 until 6 p.m.

The family wishes to acknowledge and give a special thanks to the doctors, nurses, Social Worker, Chaplain of Hospice Care, Dr. Charles Coles, Dr. Mark Passerella, Ms. Tina Whiting, CNA; and the rest of the Staff of the Hospice House in Charlottesville, that assisted Mr. Boyd and the family during his illness. Family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Piedmont Palliative Care, Hospice of the Piedmont, 675 Peter Jefferson Parkway, Suite 300, Charlottesville, Virginia, 22911.
